Danielle and I met up with a German girl whom we became friends with at a hostel in Abel Tasman National Park and her sister, and the four of us did an early morning cruise through the Milford Sound. It started out really foggy, but the air cleared up part way through to reveal the incredible landscapes. It was a little cold, but we warmed ourselves up with coffee. We had a lot of fun, and even saw seals out on the rocks. :)
This trail is part of the longer Routeburn track, one of the "New Zealand Great Walks." After doing a cruise through Milford Sound in the morning, Lisa, Maike, Danielle and I decided to do an afternoon hike up to Key Summit. We met two new friends on the way up, guys from Germany and the USA. We ended up all getting along really well, and stayed at the summit for a long time together.
Danielle and I hiked to this alpine lake surrounded by the Darran Mountains. It was a really fun trail, as it was very scrambly, and the view once we got to the top was beautiful. The water was so clear and refreshing to swim in!
We crossed The Hollyford River by swing bridge on our way to the lake.
Lake Te Anau
Danielle and I stayed four nights in the small town of Te Anau and made day trips around to different parts of Fiordland National Park. There is a nice lake here where we went swimming with some friends one evening. We also found a yummy shop that sells fresh fruit ice cream, of which we quickly became addicts!
